        The symptoms are caused by toxins secreted by bacteria of the family Streptococcus. The transmission of the pathogen is usually by inhalation of saliva droplets emitted by an infected person (coughing, sneezing). Contamination from toys, tableware or by contact with purulent wound is rare. It should be remembered that all people with strep is not necessarily sick. Scarlatina confers most of the time immunity against toxins, but not against other diseases caused by streptococcus (eg. Angina). Very small children are protected until the sixth month against the effects of toxins by antibodies received from their mother.

What is it?

        Scarlet fever is a contagious bacterial infection occurring in children between 5 and 10 years. The bacteria in question (the origin of the signs of angina) secretes a toxin (protein) circulating in the body and responsible for cutaneous signs of the disease.

        The bacterium responsible is a group A streptococcus.The infection occurs mainly during cold epidemic affected communities (school). The transmission of infection is through the air more often from an affected child. Thanks to the treatment (penicillin) this disease is less common than in the past and less serious (the big scarlet fever was the terror of our ancestors). Most often, children are nowadays reduced to scarlet fever . They are nevertheless dangerous when they go unnoticed. The infection develops from an area containing pus level of the pharynx and tonsils (tonsillitis). Streptococcus responsible for scarlet fever secretes a toxin.
