Scarlet fever in children

To treat sore throats, it is recommended to gargle and apply cold packs. You must moisten the air to calm the cough. Depending on the circumstances, it is preferable to keep in bed and isolate the child at least two days of treatment with antibiotics. Some family medicine have been proven:

  • To gargle
  • Sage tea
  • Saltwater: dissolving a half a teaspoon of salt in a large glass of water.
  • Dissolve 2 teaspoons of honey and 3 teaspoons cider vinegar in 2 dl of hot water.
  • 15 drops of chamomile extract in a glass of water.
  • Cold wraps around the neck. Apply the wrap so that it covers the neck region of an ear to the other without touching the cervical vertebrae. Surround it with a scarf in wool and keep it for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Wrap cheese: spread the cheese on a machine.
  • Wrapping lemons.
  • Wrap the onions, cut 1 or 2 onions, wrapped in a cloth and apply it to cold.
  • Drink plenty of herbal tea.

When should you consult the doctor?

The suspicion of scarlet fever is still an opportunity for consultation. A medical emergency is indicated when:

  • Fever over 40 degrees
  • Apathy, convulsions
  • Bleeding disorders

The antibiotic prescribed should absolutely be taken throughout the duration of 8 to 10 days, although fever and rash or exanthema disappeared. Sometimes because every fifth patient suffers complications, it is advisable to undergo a new examination by two to three weeks after the end of the disease. That's when we can detect the effects, such as inflammation of the kidneys or nephritis (glomerulonephritis) or disorders of the heart muscle or heart valves.

Prevent Scarlet fever in children

There is no vaccine against scarlet fever. Children with scarlet fever may again come into contact with other people after one or two days after treatment with antibiotics, but should not go to school for at least a week as a precautionary measure. When giving up the antibiotic, which is not recommended because of serious complications, especially among children, the danger of contamination exists until the disappearance of symptoms.

Diagnosis - detect and confirm Scarlet fever children

The diagnosis is mainly clinical. The signs of the disease are sufficient to raise the scarlet fever, no biological examination is useful (except in cases of unusual shape).Scarlet fever should not be confused with with other bacterial infections of the skin, including those related to staphylococci or with viral infections responsible for skin manifestations: rubella, infectious mononucleosis. In all cases, the characteristic exanthema guides the doctor toward the diagnosis of scarlet fever.
We can not prevent scarlet fever but usual hygiene measures can help protect against infections in general:

  • Handwashing. We must wash our hands with soap after contact with an infected person or after touching an object manipulated by it. It is necessary to wash often young children hands and teach them how to do it themselves as soon as possible, especially after they have coughed or sneezed, or after they were flies.
  • The use of the handkerchief. Teach your child to cough or sneeze into a handkerchief.
  • Is coughing or sneezing in the hollow of the elbow. Teach your child to cough or sneeze in the hollow of his elbow rather than his hand if he has no handkerchief.
  • Disinfection of surfaces of transmission. Clean thoroughly toys, faucets and door handles, preferably with a cleaner containing alcohol.
